  • In education, it's a book that's interesting to older students who don't read very well. It's short for high-interest, low-reading level.

    October 13, 2008

  • u did, of course.

    October 13, 2008

  • Dara Torres is a U.S. olympic swimmer who won silver in Bejing at the age of 41. I forget if it was the 50 or the 100 free, but it was a *very* close race for the gold.

edit: Surprisingly, c_b and I agree on the pronunciation of Norfolk.

  • Leftover pizza is vile in general. I always send my extra pizza home with somebody else.

    September 27, 2008

  • I initially heard about Kiva from a guy who worked for a different microloan nonprofit in DC. It's encouraging to see the # of repaid loans vs. the # of defaulted loans. The overwhelming majority of these folks make good, which is more than the average American can say.

    September 27, 2008

  • Exactly.

    September 25, 2008

  • Grrr. I don't like how the commas look on the third entry. Any suggestions?

  • Pro, aren't you an old hand at this? ;)

    September 25, 2008

    September 25, 2008

  • *This* is why I love this name. The little girl in question has zillions of nicnames to choose from. Margaret is another fave for the same reason.

    July 29, 2008

  • Really? I'm so excited. I've enver seen them. Do they have a website?

    July 29, 2008

  • No way!!! I totally saw them when we visited the Maritime provinces ages ago. I tortured many a friend with their CD.

  • Isn't the filling of whoopie pies made of Crisco and powdered sugar?

    July 29, 2008

  • Turkey bacon looks like bacon, but made from kosher meat. It's probably good if you've never had the real deal.

    July 24, 2008

  • uselessness was always so creative. He was the first to post a metalist, the first to create a stuffie, etc. :)

    July 24, 2008

  • It was fun. We ought to do that again. :)

    July 24, 2008

    July 24, 2008

  • Which point confuses you?

*glad she's not the only one*

    July 24, 2008

  • I am slow on the uptake today. I was thinking, "plethora is eleven?! Holy s***!"

    July 24, 2008

  • On a side note: I've finally figured out why turkey bacon exists. It is kosher. For years, I thought it was because turkey was healthier than pork. Since bacon is usually fried, I couldn't see why you'd care. I know you're all thinking, "duh jen", but this was one of moments when the world suddenly made sense. Clearly, I need my horizons broadened.

    July 23, 2008

  • Thanks yarb. :)

    July 23, 2008

  • Wahoo-wa!

    July 23, 2008

  • non compos mentis?

    July 23, 2008

  • Funny thing, I've been having nightmares about giving birth to 13-year olds. (Okay, in my dream it was a 9-year old.) Either way, it's pretty uncomfortable.

    July 23, 2008

  • Sounds like something Lemony Snicket would dream up. He uses great language. :)

    July 23, 2008

  • You make me laugh. :)

    July 23, 2008

  • These words make mouths happy. :)

    July 23, 2008

    July 22, 2008

  • That is *so* cool, and so French. I love it!

    July 22, 2008

  • Ha! Teachers use the term FLK. I didn't realize that other folks understood us. :)

    July 22, 2008

  • c_b et al: What possible problem can you have with PBF??? It's sweet and fatty and salty and I was never allowed to eat it as a child, which always makes things taste better. (c_b, clarification would help. Which two combinations are worthy of a call to cps?)

    July 22, 2008

  • jmp: You feed that junk to *children*? I think I may have to call Child Protectivce Services on the lot of you.

Peanut butter is a pretty amazing food item. Have you ever had:

    Peanut butter and fluff?

    Peanut butter and honey?

    Peanut butter and banana?

c_b: Amen. Crunchy all the way.

    July 22, 2008

  • I like downy fluff. :)

    July 22, 2008

  • Good eye! That entry is my personal favorite. :)

  • very cool list idea. :)

    July 19, 2008

  • v. cool

    July 19, 2008

    July 19, 2008

  • *lightbulb turns on above jennarenn's head*

This is *exactly* what some kids mean when they say, "just a second".

    July 19, 2008

  • Was this on a list of utterly useless items? I feel like we may have a discussion about this at one point....

    July 19, 2008

  • Also, people who can't (or don't) think for themselves.

    July 19, 2008

    July 19, 2008

  • Oh, that *is* tacky. Besides, why would you want cotton candy in December? It's clearly an outdoor treat.

    July 19, 2008

  • Is this the same as cotton candy?

    July 19, 2008

  • jmp: no, no, no, no, no, and no. It wasn't as common when we were kids, but if you've been in a classroom recently it's very real.

    July 19, 2008

  • Yep. We're the same age, which made the dream all the more confusing. :P

    July 19, 2008

  • bilby, we don't need a random list feature. You just type in http://wordie.org/lists/ and add a jumble of numbers after that. It's pretty entertaining. :)

    July 19, 2008

  • Oh, *this* is where one was to deposit words of adoration.

John, I love this feature so much that I'm considering having its babies!!!

    July 16, 2008

  • Billybeanshipping is another winner.

    July 16, 2008

  • I wish I'd organized my conversations list this way. Very smart.

    July 16, 2008

  • OH MY GOSH!!!! John, I love the new "most active threads" feature. You are *so* getting the cookie recipie.

    July 16, 2008

  • Wouldn't this be Catch-11?

    July 16, 2008

  • Oh my wordie! c_b, last night I had a dream where you thought you were my birth mother, and I had to explain that I wasn't adopted.

    July 15, 2008

  • But, then how do you know when you win?

    July 15, 2008

  • Awwww. Six months later, somebody picks up the thread. :)

    July 15, 2008

  • Cool. Pro is the newest Wordie historian. Welcome to the dept.

    July 13, 2008

  • Huh. bilby, MissAnthropist, did I miss something?

    July 11, 2008

  • It was always difficult to get people in multiple time zones to play at the same time. :( Besides, I'm drowning in the recent volume on the site.

    July 11, 2008

  • I love this list. So fresh and honest. :)

    July 11, 2008

  • Do be fair. This is a swing term that drummers appear to have borrowed without our permission!

    July 11, 2008

  • Don't be so modest bilby. Everybody loves your new hit single.

    July 9, 2008

  • bibly's hit single, Invitingly Blank Toilet Paper, just debuted at number one on the paper productpunk charts.

    July 9, 2008

  • This genre shows punk's softer side.

    July 9, 2008

  • Brilliant.

    July 9, 2008

  • What kind of invitation were you thinking of?

edit: I know you're not supposed to end a sentence with a preposition, but the other possible construction just plain hurts.

    July 9, 2008

  • Some of those punk genres I listed may be a little new and edgy.

    July 9, 2008

  • There's a wart on a frog on a bump on a log in a hole at the bottom of the sea.

    July 9, 2008

  • It looks deserted.

    July 9, 2008

  • Huh?

    July 9, 2008

  • Hi weirdpunk. Hope you don't mind if we borrow your list. :)

    July 9, 2008

  • I associated this word with nebula because nobody wanted to follow up nebula. mollusque, you're too smart for us. See skipvia's Free Association list.

    July 9, 2008

  • Investigating....

    July 9, 2008

  • LOVE it.

    July 9, 2008

  • Great story, but what does it have to do with this word?

    July 9, 2008

  • hahaha

    July 9, 2008

  • Sir? Private jennarenn reporting with some intelligence of an abandoned open list. weirdpunk seems to have abandoned this over a month ago. Permission to investigate?

    July 9, 2008

  • Two tags! I'm now up to two tags!!!

edit: I just noticed that I have more citations than words. What really surprises me is that most people have more words than citations.

    July 9, 2008

  • Oh, a friend actually gave me those bandages for Christmas! They come with a tiny plastic pig. See my comments on bacon and fried goodness for further illumination.

    July 9, 2008

  • bilby, you should also check out the LOL geology here. My personal favorite is the volcano one. :)

    July 8, 2008

  • English is a language of loanwords. That's why we have several names for everything (dresser v. chest of drawers), and so many spelling quirks. I would have said that sari was a loanword, while ennui was fully English by now. Each to his own.

    July 8, 2008

  • Often directed at poor Bob.

    July 8, 2008

  • That which brings the boys to the yard.

    July 8, 2008

  • Awesome goal. What inspired this endeavor?

    July 7, 2008

  • I dare you to say this username without a bounce in your step. It's just not possible.

    July 7, 2008

  • I love your username. It sounds like a bouncing ball.

    July 7, 2008

  • She has been added to fabulous usernames.

    July 7, 2008

  • she may not be a her. We dunno.

    July 7, 2008

  • Oh yes you can.

    July 5, 2008

  • It's a different type of error, so you get a different message. :)

    July 5, 2008

  • Much like the Emperor's new clothes, the cat's pajamas are invisible. See the picture below:

    July 3, 2008

    July 2, 2008

  • Dear Abby,

I like big butts. Please advise.

    Signed,

    July 2, 2008

  • Fabio will be paying you a house call tomorrow.

    July 2, 2008

  • That's so good that I don't care if it's fake. :)

    July 1, 2008

  • I do happen to specialize in finding the lost. (At least if it's lost on Wordie.)

    June 27, 2008

  • Sadly, c_b can't add a *list* to her conversations list, but anybody could tag it. :)

edit: What is the standard tag for that? I would kinda like a repository of standard tags. Anybody up for a list?

    June 27, 2008

  • Pro, point taken, but Aron's list is in the 12,000s. That means he was probably "active" about three or four months ago.

*Hmmm, jenn is maybe a little scared that she knows that.*

    June 27, 2008

  • You could also call them bood if you prefer everything jammed together. (Gee, I wish I could see uselessness blush.)

    June 27, 2008

  • My mom would have to walk uphill in the snow to plug in the computer with her BARE HANDS!!!

    June 27, 2008

  • Private jennarenn, reporting for duty. We may have found our next target. An off-duty Wordie left a list of ten "surreal idioms" just sitting there. Permission to investigate?

    June 27, 2008

  • It is pretty adorable. Did you scratch it under its chin and listen to it purr?

    June 27, 2008

  • Exceedingly cool list idea.

    June 27, 2008

  • Okay, we give up. Where did you go?

    June 27, 2008

  • Back at my post, sir. The poodles were helping me to get the helmet over the 'fro. I see that arby detonated the Dr. Seuss Device in my stead.

    June 27, 2008

  • Well, mixhere, first you get some words. Then you ask them to line up. They're going to push and shove, and everybody, and I do mean EVERYBODY, will want to be first. Once you marshal the troups into some sort of order, you drop them one at a time into the little box and click add. Suddenly, you have a list.

    BTW, I hate commas.

    June 27, 2008

  • I heard this song on the radio for the first time yesterday, and instantly recognized it as something I'd played in pep band years ago.

    June 26, 2008

  • M.C.

    June 26, 2008

  • Wordie time! DO Do do do...can't touch this!

    June 26, 2008

  • Huh. Makes me wonder how many other words I've been misreading.

    June 26, 2008

  • Oh no! Why so grouchy?

    June 26, 2008

  • Out of curiosity, has the list name changed over time? Didn't this used to be the seven stages of wordie addiction?

    June 26, 2008

  • I'll never think about passwords the same way again. Thanks. ;)

edit: I had to take the apostrophe out of "passwords". Just couldn't take it!

    June 26, 2008

  • Poor waldo. They'll find him thousands of years from now, cell phone in hand and knit cap still keeping that decaying head warm.

    June 26, 2008

  • Thankfully, John has given us Wordie Mobile.

    June 26, 2008

  • Had Hadley had "had had", she would have had the teacher's approval.

    June 26, 2008

  • This list just begs the obvious question. Have at it folks. I've found your afternoon entertainment. Where is waldo?

    June 26, 2008

  • sightsitecite, you have won the fabulous username award! You also created the *very first* open list. Must have been quite a day. Wish I'd been there. :)

    June 26, 2008

  • Actually, I think that that's on another list this week. This one is devoted to intentional misspellings.

    June 26, 2008

  • This nose knows no limits.

    June 26, 2008

  • c_b, are we thinking of the same middle schooler? She...no...no...?

    June 26, 2008

  • Ghostie. u must have been here.

    June 26, 2008

  • It *is* fun to say, as evidenced by the infamous "Thong Song".

    June 26, 2008

  • I was thinking about pairs of words where one is a misspelling of another. The mistake connotes some additional meaning that is lost when the word is spoken. For example, fstr is an abbreviation of faster, but there's no way to read it.

    Wordie confession: I say "I E".

    June 26, 2008

  • What a lovely username. Welcome to Wordie.

    June 26, 2008

  • What breakfast cereals should not be.

    June 26, 2008

  • Ha! I kept reading this word as Monday, and then looking at the weirnet definition, then looking back at the word, misreading it again, then back at the definition....

    June 26, 2008

  • Here's a question: how do we know when a list has been added? What happens if some new wordie stumbles across a classic from ages past and nominates it for '08? Do we care?

    June 26, 2008

  • Chuck Norris never sleeps, but if he did, he could nap as well.

    June 26, 2008

  • Ugh, you'll pay.

    June 26, 2008

  • A clear spammer who got the wordie treatment in spades. See here for details.

    June 26, 2008

  • rolig, every time I see your name I start humming Rawhide to myself. :)

    June 26, 2008

  • These are some of my favorite instruments. The fact that they're often played by men in skirts is just gravy.

    June 26, 2008

  • I believe that the comment below is the first one on wordie. Take a look at this.

    June 26, 2008

  • One third of an excuse to shake your booty, foo.

    June 26, 2008

  • Huh. I'm waiting for mollusque to show up. *whistles* Lob...lolly...gag...reflex...? What's next? *twiddles thumbs*

    June 26, 2008

  • All this talk of good food...I may cry.

    June 26, 2008

  • Bicarb soda? Is that the same thing as baking soda?

    June 26, 2008

  • Evidently Prolagus sees them.

    June 26, 2008

  • I suffer from the disorder listed above.

    June 26, 2008

  • Great list!

    June 26, 2008

  • No napping??? This baby bunny is tearing up as she types!

    June 26, 2008

  • Awesome. I need to sort my conversations chronologically.

    June 24, 2008

  • 2004, on the other hand, was a very fine year. I have one that I never got around to giving to a friend. 2015....

    June 24, 2008

  • L o r i s ? ? ?

    June 24, 2008

  • Now, here's a question: Is the porch attached to an actual house, or is it a free-standing structure, a la Scrubs?

    June 24, 2008

  • Cool.

    June 24, 2008

  • Huh. Both of these exist only in print. Ooo! List idea!

    June 24, 2008

  • dc: Good call on the jazz hands. It would have never crossed my consciousness, but they really do have an expiration date, and it's after approximately three repetitions.

    June 24, 2008

  • dc: I wish I could say that I was a fan of mushy foods, such as porridge, oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc., but it is not so. Much like Sunny Baudelaire, I prefer my breakfast foods on the crunchy side.

b: I can whistle, rock, knit, play *with* crickets, eat apples, and tell tall tales. Do I pass???

    June 24, 2008

  • Ew. It still wouldn't satisfy the "bread product" requirement, and it certainly wouldn't qualify as fried *goodness*.

bilby: Is the People's Democratic Republic of The Porch accepting new citizenship applications at this time?

    June 23, 2008

  • Oh, I know it's not surprising. I just like to think of a time when there was only one list. My new hobby is to type in http://wordie.org/lists/ and then put a random number at the end. I was just wondering if there was some obscure test list out there, floating in the blue.

edit: I currently working on a s l o w computer. Quadruple commenting will not continue. My apologies!

    June 23, 2008

  • Women's dress sizes have always been slightly wonky. I can be a size 6 in one store, and a size 1000 in the next.

    June 23, 2008

  • You can't list a list on a list. So here I sit, listlessly wishing that somebody had listed this list as a specific word.

    June 23, 2008

  • Awww, this is the first list on the entire site! How cute.

    June 23, 2008

  • bilby is digging up all sorts of oldies today. :)

    June 23, 2008

  • Porridge is a pretty word for some less than satisfactory eats. Maybe if porridge denoted a fried bread product, we'd hear it more often.

    June 23, 2008

  • It was beautiful, wasn't it? I wish I could list this list on my conversations list.

    June 23, 2008

  • These things are amazingly soft.

    June 23, 2008

  • My term for any girl who's skinnier than I am. For example, "His new girlfriend is 6'2", and a size stick."

    June 23, 2008

  • I *KNEW* it! c_b is really Ken Jenkins from Scrubs! You're sure to win. :)

    June 17, 2008

  • Really? I can just imagine having your house cloaked and then not hearing important stuff, like gunshots and fire alarms.

    June 17, 2008

  • Eh, too messy. You have to drive them through the carwash afterwards, and they hate the bad costumes.

    May 16, 2008

  • Falafel sounds like it may qualify on the "fried" side of things, but I'm still unconvinced about the "goodness" factor, particularly since I don't care for pepper. I'll investigate and get back to you.

P.S. Funnel cakes are right up there with bacon. Heaven forbid I ever have to choose.

    May 16, 2008

  • YESSSS!!!!! That may be my new favorite.

    May 16, 2008

  • I've heard of it, but I need more info. What's it taste like?

    May 16, 2008

  • lovely word. Added!

    May 16, 2008

  • I never realized it before, but Britney has terrible initials. I saw bilby's comment on the feed, and thought he was going somewhere else with it!

    May 16, 2008

  • See more info under fried goodness.

    May 16, 2008

  • Yeah, I'm typically a few years behind.

    May 16, 2008

  • Ohmywordie, I'm addicted.

Chuck Norris watches Blu Ray. On His VCR.

Chuck Norris counted to infinity. Twice.

Chuck Norris know the last digit of Pi.

It goes on, and on, and on....

    May 11, 2008

  • What is up with Chuck Norris? There are a million references to him on facebook:

Chuck Norris can drown a fish.

Chuck Norris can strangle you with a cordless phone.

Chuck Norris can touch MC Hammer.

Chuck Norris can delete the recycling bin.

Chuck Norris doesn't read books so much as stare them down until he gets the information he wants.

    Seriously, what gives?

    May 9, 2008

  • Oh, I was totally thinking of MC Hammer.

DOOO do do do...Can't touch this!

    May 9, 2008

  • Oh, indeed. It's a great list you've got there, gangerh.

    May 9, 2008

  • Our family always called it "the right of way" because of the public utilities, similar to dontcry.

    May 9, 2008

  • As in, "We need to take Yo Mama for a walk."

    May 5, 2008

  • What are the rules?

    May 5, 2008

  • Huh. Weirdnet says that they're "probably extinct." Regardless, may I humbly suggest Yo Mama?

    May 5, 2008

  • What about its sister vehicle, the Omnipresent?

edit: Dude, I should try reading the list before I comment.

    May 2, 2008

  • Moo moo. Adverb, people, adverb.

    May 2, 2008

  • Nothing is better than a snorifice captured on film. Finally, the noisy offender has no recourse but to buy you doughnuts, if only to help you gain enough weight to join them in their nocturnal chorus.

    May 2, 2008

  • But wait until your teacher gets ahold of it:

    "I didn't grade your papers."

"Gee-whiz, Miss Jennarenn! It's been, like, four months. What gives?"

    "Why do you hate freedom?"

c_b: Oy. I was thinking that that road was called 264. See? No sense of direction.

    May 2, 2008

  • The question remains: huh?

    May 2, 2008

  • Yes, but why would you *want* take 295? (I haven't actually heard of a 295...but then I have no sense of direction.)

    May 1, 2008

  • .6% of people chose "other". What else could you call frosting/icing? Transfat Goodness???

    May 1, 2008

  • hee!

    May 1, 2008

  • My family always said "plum tuckered out". :)

    May 1, 2008

  • Plum is one of my favorite renegade adjectives.

    May 1, 2008

  • This is the only nickname that has ever been expressly forbidden by the recipient. (Note: not all recipients are aware of their nicknames.)

    April 29, 2008

  • Short for Brian.

    April 29, 2008

  • You can't shorten Chi (like the tea), so I lengthened it.

    April 29, 2008

  • Amiel.

    April 29, 2008

  • Amiel.

    April 29, 2008

  • Short for Lauren.

    April 29, 2008

  • Amen to dat.

    April 29, 2008

  • This is actually the perfect nickname for my mother. She'll be so pleased.

    April 29, 2008

  • This list is delightful!

    April 29, 2008

  • Is this what happens when southerners buy a months's worth of bread and milk before the second flake hits the ground?

    April 29, 2008

  • Dang, reestee. *I* wanted to whip c_b into a fit of peek. No fair!

    April 29, 2008

  • *can't breathe*

    April 29, 2008

  • OOOOOHhhhhh. I gets it now. :)

    edit: No, I don't.

edit of the edit: *now* I gets it.

    April 29, 2008

  • Which conversations????

    April 29, 2008

  • Sorry bilby, that was an American reference. Click and Clack are two car mechanics who have a humorous radio show where people call in with car problems and end up getting made fun of. I know that I've seen a few Car Talk lists on this site....

    April 3, 2008

  • Well, tsunamis have nothing to do with tides. The term was a misnomer from the start.

    April 3, 2008

  • It is a *shame* that I can't add this word to conversations.

    April 2, 2008

  • Click has always been the more personable of the two. (Incidentally, they're actually brothers.)

    April 2, 2008

  • This page is crying out for a song.

    April 2, 2008

  • Ohhh, some local chain restaurant douses them in cheese and butter. Yum!

    April 2, 2008

  • No worries. Glad to gross out the general public at any time of the night or day.

Palooka, c_b is always right. They are nipples.

    April 2, 2008

  • Stuffies are some of my favorite lists to work on. The new open list format would make an interesting twist.

    April 2, 2008

  • Awesome! I'm going to be so sad when the tomato reverts back to the original, although the rest of the site is welcome to do so.)

    April 2, 2008

  • Ah, it tricked me too! See my comment under font.

    April 2, 2008

  • That made my day. :)

    April 2, 2008

  • In college, I had a male acquaintance whole swore up and down that he could get a "milky fluid" to drain from his nipples with about 20 minutes of massaging the area. I never bothered to verify his claim.

    April 2, 2008

  • Holy smokes! John changed the font while I was away.

    April 2, 2008

  • Hey Fred,

I happen to love your username. Welcome to Wordie.

    :) Jen

    March 17, 2008

  • skip, if it's any consolation, I totally thought of asteroids.

cricket, you make me smile. You are *definitely* not supposed to know that word.

c_b, thanks for the subtlety. :)

    March 11, 2008

  • As someone whose Wordie time is severely limited between September and June, there are times when I'd appreciate a way to filter comments. Personally, I simply can't keep up anymore. I love that you guys are enjoying yourselves, but I do miss being in the thick of things. :) Jen

    March 10, 2008

  • I think I may have seen your scallops at a recent holiday bash, drinking it up.

    March 3, 2008

  • Hahahahahah!!!! Good one, sionnach.

    February 28, 2008

  • reesetee! This is the perfect starting point for a "What is a chained_bear?" list! Oh, the reprisals!!!

    February 28, 2008

  • What??? Do you really mean to tell me that bananas don't grow in that semicircle shape???

    February 28, 2008

  • Agreed. American Airlines, however, does not. (I'm back.) :)

    February 28, 2008

  • c_b, I've just heard that the Surry House reopened! (See Carry Me Back to Old Virginia.) Can you confirm these reports????

    February 19, 2008

  • Ha ha ha! Gotta love those people who need to have the last word. ;) (Ooo! Is there a stuffie for have?)

    February 18, 2008

  • But I love Crisco! Have you ever had whoopie pies? The filling is Crisco and powdered sugar. Yum!!!

    February 18, 2008

  • I've actually seen costumes *nearly* that bad at real ballroom competitions.

    February 18, 2008

  • I *love* the pizza flavor that's surrounded by pretzel. The cracker tubes aren't nearly as good.

    February 17, 2008

  • To be fair, they were a new food for me too.

    February 17, 2008

  • Dear Virginia,

This holiday is sketch. Please call it Martin Luther King Jr. Day like the other 49 states.

    Love,

    jennarenn

    February 17, 2008

  • My roommate swears that Hydrox cookies were better.

    February 17, 2008

  • That would make a really great geek necklace. :)

    February 17, 2008

  • They are even better when "stuffed" with soft-serve. My favorite shack stopped selling spearmint ones. :(

    February 17, 2008

  • That's okay. I'm usually bumbling around, missing innuendos left and right. Just wait.

    February 15, 2008

  • Excellent!

    February 15, 2008

  • skip, do you ever mush dogs?

    February 15, 2008

  • There's a limit?! I cry fowl.

    February 15, 2008

  • Congrats! You add some fun words. :)

    February 15, 2008

  • YOU WIN!!! I love your username and just added it to this list. Congratulations.

    :) jennarenn

    February 14, 2008

  • jennarenn wuz here.

    February 14, 2008

  • c_b, that was...perfect.

    February 14, 2008

  • But I really do want to know! Do you just...this is so unfair! Now I can't ask the question. ARGH!!!

    February 14, 2008

  • Oh, wait. This might be my favorite.

    February 14, 2008

  • I dunno seanahan. Balls may have been covered once or twice. ;)

    February 14, 2008

  • Timely.

    February 14, 2008

  • Possibly my favorite.

    February 14, 2008

  • Ah-ha! J.K. Rowling has an amazing vocabulary. Totally thought that this word was madeupical.

    February 14, 2008

  • I *love* P.D.Q. Bach!!! How do you play a dill piccolo?

    February 14, 2008

  • My parents had an odd sense of humor.

    February 14, 2008

  • Actually, I'm not sure. Depends on your definition of pop music.

    February 13, 2008

  • Somewhere, there is a picture of me sporting a gold slap bracelet in the early 90s.

    February 13, 2008

  • Clue got expanded into a movie at some point in the 80s. It's the only movie I know of with three different endings.

    February 13, 2008

  • Well, then it's a happy accident that she didn't make the list. :)

    -jen-I-never-claimed-I-could-spell-worth-squat-a-renn

    February 13, 2008

  • This is one of the few lists that would actually be better in real life. :) (Not meant as a diss on yo' list.)

Seriously, can you imagine some of the real-life items that lists represent just piled on top of each other? Then again, maybe you can't. I tend to find my own fun.

    February 13, 2008

  • Why does this need to be explained? Have some people actually missed out on the entire s'more experience?!?!?!

    *collapses in a histrionic fit*

    February 13, 2008

  • Which means that he can also stalk you. *waggles eyebrows at reestee*

    February 13, 2008

  • Burmese are good for that. :)

    February 13, 2008

  • Yessssss. Good memory. :)

    February 12, 2008

  • Excellent! I tooked it.

    February 12, 2008

  • I was made to read Leaves of Grass in school. I know some people love that stuff, but I wasn't a fan at the time. See Free Associations list.

    February 12, 2008

  • Author of Little House on the Prairie. While I'm at it, is this legal on the Free Association list?

edit: Beaten to the punch. Laura Ingles will have to float off into the blue (white?) until somebody claims her.

    February 12, 2008

  • Wasn't there a word for this? I seem to remember something about somebody's father....

    February 12, 2008

  • ???

    February 12, 2008

  • Hahahahaha!!! Vandanbladderstiddle. Of course.

    February 12, 2008

  • Yep, that's both the rose and the thorn.

    February 12, 2008

  • Often the currency of toilet-training for little boys. (vandanbladderstiddles????)

    February 12, 2008

  • Wordies love puns. Here's a new one from fearnought screen.

    February 12, 2008

  • The problem is that pronk is the first word that I free-associate with stot. While I am thrilled that both words made it on the list, I see an endless loop up ahead. Somebody else needs to take the reigns.

    February 12, 2008

  • Oooo!!!! Good inside joke. Thanks. :)

    February 11, 2008

  • See todal. I'll come up with some quirky replacement comment in the future.

    February 11, 2008

  • See histrionically, where I WAS NOT MENTIONED EVEN ONCE!!!!!

    February 11, 2008

  • Yes, but is there a cool Greek word for that?

    February 11, 2008

  • You just want an excuse to add more words. ;) Be my guest.

    February 11, 2008

  • John, I think we may be talking about the same recipie. Mine only has four ingredients: broccoli, crackers, butter, and Velveeta.

    February 11, 2008

  • What I love is those tubs of spreadable port wine cheese. Slightly sketch; perfectlty wonderful. (I also have a good recipie that calls for Velveeta, but I never know what to do with the rest of the brick.)

    February 10, 2008

  • Reelly, folk dancing isn't all that exciting. I prefer swing any day of the week.

    February 10, 2008

  • Baby's breath, with thanks to Treeseed.

    February 10, 2008

  • Wasn't that actually one guy who sang all the parts?

    Treeseed: Love your list title.

    February 10, 2008

  • I am eternally grateful that that's NOT my number. Can you imagine the crank calls?

    February 10, 2008

  • That's the beautiful thing about words. You can be as greedy as you like, and there's still enough to go around.

    February 10, 2008

  • As in, accordion music is absolutely the worst noise!!!! Who listens to that stuff???

    February 10, 2008

  • Best pop piccolo solo ever.

    February 10, 2008

  • Oh, my. I didn't send a card. My apologies to the owner of the fish.

    February 7, 2008

  • Desist!

    February 7, 2008

  • Somebody should toadally add expoazed.

    February 7, 2008

  • When I think of Palestine, I think of Biblical characters truding through sand. See skipvia's Free Association list.

    February 7, 2008

  • I *have* had the chocolate Twizzlers, and I admit that they confused me. They have the texture of licorice and the flavor of chocolate. Now if you found something with the opposite features, I could be a fan.

    February 5, 2008

  • Hee-hee. It's usually left to uselessness to spice up the conversation with a dashing pun. Wonder where he's gone.

    February 5, 2008

  • I recently had these in the raw, and they are wonderful! Taste just like the sodas.

    February 5, 2008

  • I love that you love that expression. Almost makes me wish I could carry it off.

    February 5, 2008

  • There you are! Welcome back. I'm gratified to see that even Wordie greats can still learn stuff. Gives me hope.

    February 5, 2008

  • Oh, you would have the inside scoop. Poor c_b. (Really? In January???)

    February 5, 2008

  • Finding my head register changed my life. Suddenly I could sing more than an entire octave. Amazing!

    February 4, 2008

  • Just when I think we've listed it all....

    February 4, 2008

  • I have 999 words. I'd like to add another couple of lists, but I find myself reluctant to get into the quadruple digits. Maybe I can find something to prune first....

    February 4, 2008

  • January is a slow time in the Let's Talk About Old Stuff industry. I'm betting that c_b is on vacation.

    February 4, 2008

  • Includes classics such as, "Trashy Women", "Pickup Man", and "The Fishin' Song".

    February 4, 2008

  • I read all of my mother's decorator magazines throughout middle and high school. Chinoiserie was often used to describe antiques.

    See skipvia's Free Association List.

    February 4, 2008

  • Cool!

    February 4, 2008

  • Pack (I will pack your suitcase for you.)

    i (short I)

    Stan (like the name)

    /pack-i-stan/

How do other people pronounce it?

    February 4, 2008

  • Hmmm, do we have an out stuffie?

    February 4, 2008

  • Update: Liquorice Altoids have surfaced in a local Trader Joe's. There was much rejoicing!

    February 4, 2008

  • I would think so. We're just all lazy bums.

    January 31, 2008

  • So...what would you call a band that performs in a women's restroom? It wasn't great music, but the venue was memorable. It's also the only event I've ever attended that was broken up by the police. :)

    January 31, 2008

  • That's okay. Wordie is very forgiving. You can ignore her for months, and she'll still give you a monster hug when you return. :)

    January 31, 2008

  • Oh! Oh! Oh! I can't wait to go home and find The Sleep Book. We used to quote that one 'round the jennarenn house.

    January 29, 2008

  • Somedays (weeks, months) you just have to give up and accept that you missed out.

    January 29, 2008

  • Thanks, sionnach. gangerh, out of curiosity, what's the matter with Essex girls?

    January 29, 2008

  • Some of us, however, has a bear to cross.

    January 29, 2008

  • Oh my. What are we calling the actual Canadians?

    January 29, 2008

  • WONDERFUL on scones, and it's got that great short o sound to boot.

Fortunately, jennarenn's waistline is not affected by her wordie comments. When posting becomes caloric, she'll be in trouble. ;)

    January 29, 2008

  • I must not be as sensitive as other folks, but it sure is a fun list.

    January 28, 2008

  • Totally thought that this was a reference for women.

    January 28, 2008

  • He is pretty dreamy. ;)

    January 28, 2008

  • Huh?

    January 28, 2008

  • I think it's parked outside in my driveway tonight. ;)

    January 28, 2008

  • Are these all B&J flavors? What's in Blue Moon?

    January 27, 2008

  • What about the supermarket Piggly Wiggly?

    January 27, 2008

  • Our family's favorite Mr. Ed episode was the one where he's driving a van. You see this hoof step on the gas, which just sent us into fits of giggles. When Ed (inevitably) gets pulled over, he's wearing goggles, a scarf, and a driving cap. Brilliant show.

    January 27, 2008

  • Lovely! I approve of windmills in any form.

    January 27, 2008

  • You have a lovely username. I'm a big fan of the sprout myself.

    January 23, 2008

  • D'oh, I already made that comment!

    January 23, 2008

  • I LOVED that book!!! I also really want that recipie. :D

    January 23, 2008

  • Charm bracelets are less than charming. I find that they tend to get in the way.

    January 23, 2008

  • I coached a summer league team for five years and always wanted to get my kids these really cool trophies. If you scroll down you'll see that the swimmer is actually horizontal. They were out of our price range, but the team got me one as a going-away present. :)

    January 23, 2008

  • c_b, I think we may need a picture of your desk. It is far more pimped out than any other to date.

    January 23, 2008

  • Lovely. Does Jesus go here, or does he get a list of his own?

    January 22, 2008

  • I was just coming here to ask about the awkward turtle. Is the awkward starfish another cool, new thing that high schoolers are doing? I feel ancient.

    January 22, 2008

  • VA actually has some nice, non-sketchy ones.

    January 22, 2008

  • cute :)

    January 22, 2008

  • Oooo, good use of y'all. One point for The Uselessness.

    January 22, 2008

  • Gumby!

    Legos!

    January 22, 2008

  • There are now two more steps: cool and call (911).

    January 22, 2008

  • I love that song, but I called it "Please Share My Umbrella" for years.

    January 22, 2008

  • Ho. Lee. Cow.

    January 22, 2008

  • :)

    January 20, 2008

  • I love lemon curd!!!

    January 20, 2008

  • It's it great how loophole has so many loops and holes? Somebody had a list for words like this....

    January 20, 2008

  • You may have found a loophole.

    January 20, 2008

  • Yes, you already have more words than I do. Congrats!

    January 20, 2008

  • Expresso, reestee, expresso. You're an ignorant American, for crying out loud. Get it "right"! ;)

    January 20, 2008

  • Really??? He didn't do that when they played at Wolftrap. *miffed*

    January 20, 2008

  • You should just go back to college. Never have I ever had such blindingly fast Internet as when I was studying too much to enjoy it.

    January 20, 2008

  • Really? I love all things fried, but...pickles?

    January 20, 2008

  • Yes I AM!

    *sniff*

    *runs away crying*

    January 20, 2008

  • Yay! I'm glad somebody else watches bad flash videos.

    January 27, 2013

  • hi jennarenn -- the email for wordplay is an aol one, and it includes the string "frogs". Is that enough to narrow it down?

    January 17, 2012

  • Hi Jen! Afraid I don't know the password either. I don't have it in any of my email inboxes, and I didn't receive the password requests you generated. I tried a few standard passwords I use for things like this and none of them work. Are you sure the user still exists on this site? I can't remember what the procedure was for migrating accounts over from Wordie.

  • Jennarenn! So nice to see you again :-)

    March 3, 2011

  • I joined Wordie in the early days. None of these sill pronunciations, teaching us how to actually use these words in real life. :)

    March 3, 2011

  • "jennarenn has created 47 lists, listed 1,194 words, written 1,739 comments, and added 2 tags, 123 favorites, and 0 pronunciations."

  • Thank you, jennarenn!

    November 3, 2009

  • Must be time for a new tag soon. Uhh, when you're ready ;-)

    September 29, 2008

  • Hi. Would you like to be on Identify the Wordie #2? You'll need to email identifythewordie@yours.com with your Wordie nick and the single word that best describes you. Cheers!

  • Reading "more about jennarenn" just about made my day. Is it by any change from this competition?

    July 20, 2008

  • You're getting the hang of tagging, jenn :-)

I have more words than citations. But only because I can't help myself madeupicalising!

    July 9, 2008

  • Two tags! I'm now up to two tags!!!

edit: I just noticed that I have more citations than words. What really surprises me is that most people have more words than citations.

  • Good call on the geology! Would never have found it otherwise :-) I can has faultline? Whahahaha!

    July 8, 2008

  • I have to move house soon. I'm not sure I have room for everything at the new place. I'd like to leave one suitcase of stuff here for a few months.

    July 3, 2008

  • "jennarenn has added 1050 words, 42 lists, 1407 comments, and 1 tag."

I found that "one tag" amazing.

    June 24, 2008

  • I have 999 words. I'd like to add another couple of lists, but I find myself reluctant to get into the quadruple digits. Maybe I can find something to prune first....

    February 4, 2008

  • This might come a little late, but:

    why, thank you!

    January 29, 2008

  • I put a description of Blue Moon on the wordie page for blue moon.

    January 27, 2008

  • Oh, no...sorry...they're just icecream flavors that are common around here in Wisconsin where I live.

    January 27, 2008

  • Thanks a million for your comment! Let's all get draggled ;)

(I'm using English as a second language so the level of creativity with English still needs polishing...)

    January 19, 2008

  • It is, indeed, the study of mike :)

  • The Terrible Towel became a thing during the 1970's when sportscaster Myron Cope talked about the Steeler fans waving towels in the stands during games. Since then, Terrible Towels have been made in the team's black and gold colors and you see tens of thousands of them at Steeler games. Fan twirl them in circles over their heads. Lots of fans twilr towels, but I think it origininated in Pittsburgh.

  • Hey! That's kind of neat -- my day has been made. I'll thoroughly enjoy the blurb throughout the day, taking a sip of it every time I feel a little glum.

    November 16, 2007

  • Late response: I'm happy until someone uses the word useful in an entirely arbitrary manner when simply expressing their approval of something; "Ooh, that dress is useful!"

    The rage!

    September 26, 2007

  • Mmmm, I teach 2nd. I'll have to take a peek. Thanks for the heads-up!

    June 24, 2007

  • J.: for 3rd grade on, my brother (a retired teacher) says. Get it for your own library, it's inexpensive and there's plenty of info on it at amazon.com. I learned about it on an NPR interview with the authors.

    June 24, 2007

  • Oooo! What ages is it written for?

    June 23, 2007

  • Jennarenn, I just noticed your comment on the frass page about teaching a "cricket unit" in September (and I'm assuming you weren't just kidding) and I wondered if you knew about the newly released book "The Songs of Insects" by Lang Elliott and Wil Hershberger. I just received my copy and it's a stunner--complete with CD of cricket and cicada songs for each entry. Photography is amazing too. Highly recommended, especially if you're really going to teach a cricket unit!

    O.

  • For what it's worth, I found the mentions page behind the "wordie in the news" link at the bottom of every page. There are a couple new links down there that my attention was drawn to, but this one is particularly mysterious because of its URL. :-)

    June 19, 2007

  • Where has this cool little page been hiding? What else don't I know about?

    June 19, 2007

  • Correction: looks like it's just showing my first list, which isn't nearly as interesting.

    June 13, 2007

  • Odd. I haven't seen that happen myself....

    June 13, 2007

  • I'm confused too. But seeing the words I've last added is kind of handy. Handy for what, I'm not sure.

    June 13, 2007

  • I am so confused, and it is way past my bedtime. When you click on add, it goes to the words you've recently added. If you're not signed in, it goes to the main page. My poor little brain can't take it.

  • No worries. We love the site, quirks and all. And yes, that is a *fabulous* first sentence. I wish I knew which one was the grand-prize winner.

    May 20, 2007

  • That's the best worst first sentence I've seen in a long time.

    May 20, 2007

  • I think the way you're doing it is the only way, at the moment. It's a great suggestion, I'll add it to the 'to-do' list, though it's behind fixing commenting and adding paging in a few spots where it's desperately needed. I'm batty with other things lately, poor Wordie has to stay in the back seat a while longer.

    May 20, 2007

  • Anybody know how to change the order of your lists once you've made them? The only way I've found is to create a new list and transfer the words one...at...a...time.

    May 19, 2007

  • Thank you, it *is* a lovely trophy; I'll make sure to keep it polished.

    February 12, 2007

  • Oh, rats! I missed the whole thing! Sorry...been away from the computer for a while. Maybe next time! Congrats--nice-looking trophy you have there.

Suddenly I've come up with lots of things to keep in a backpack. ;-)

    February 11, 2007

  • You have emerged victorious from Compendium: Round 1. We are humbled by your aptitude, awed by your proficiency! Make sure to come back for the next game so you can retain your title, champion.
