  • noun A breed of the domestic fowl, of French origin, characterized by its long square form, heavy, globular crest, full beard or muff, evenly mottled black-and-white plumage, and the presence of five toes on each foot. It lays large white eggs, and is esteemed as one of the best of fowls for the table.
