  • noun [lowercase] A celebrated Egyptian fish, Mormyrus oxyrhynchus; the mizdeh, formerly reverenced throughout Egypt, and sacred to the goddess Hathor. It is represented both in sculptures and on coins, and was anciently embalmed. See Mormyrus.
  • noun In ornithology, a genus of American tyrant-flycatchers, having a long straight conic-acute bill, and green plumage with orange crown. O. frater is a Central American species.
  • noun A genus of reptiles.
  • noun In entomology: A genus of coleopterous insects of the family Curculionidæ, containing a few East Indian species.
