In his seminal gialli - THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE (1970) and PROFONDO ROSSO (DEEP RED, 1975) - the protagonists are put into situations where they can only look on in horror, unable to respond when they see someone being murdered before their very eyes.
