It's less about slipping on the ice than it is about falling through the thin layer at the top of deep puddles.

I think the main problem is that I'm always using sidewalks and bike trails. There are fewer puddles in the streets, but the snow gets up into my brakes and it's hard to stop. (That and I have to share streets with pesky, no-good, big, scary, evil cars.)
