- noun In social statistics, the number of occurrences, conditions, or relations (as births, marriages, or deaths) in a given population in each year or in each five- or ten-year period of life: as, 50 deaths annually in each 1,000 children under five years; 10 deaths annually in each 1,000 males 25 to 30 years of age.
