- noun A ptomaïne first found in decomposing cadavers: a product of bacterial action in most instances, but sometimes formed in the body in the absence of microbes in eases of cystinuria. It is a derivative of lysin, and is known as pentamethylene-diamine (CH2 (NH2)(CH2)4(NH2)).
