- noun The mechanism by which a constant speed of rotation in a motor may cause a varying speed of the driving-wheels, and hence of the whole of the motor-vehicle.
- noun The train of wheels used in feed-mechanisms for lathes and similar tools, by which changes can be made in the relative number of turns per minute for the driving and driven shafts. Sometimes called
