June 7th, 2004 at 5:46 pm according to mother jones, which actually ran an article about a late-term abortion provider several months ago, dilation & evacuation (d&e) and dilation & extraction (d&x) are two different procedures. the former involves dismembering the fetus before removing the parts; the latter involves removing the fetus intact, feet-first, collapsing the skull where necessary (and it isn’t always).
