Yes, the genetics of it are complicated, it's an area of interest viz work for me, but I think the point I was trying to make was more along the lines of how genetics interacts with human culture and history and nurture (the latter leading to the 'endophenotype') to produce selection that isn't the straightforward natural selection process in the wild - of survival of the fitest in the wild.
