- noun In a steam-engine, the valve which regulates the passage of waste steam from the cylinder; a valve in the eduction-passage of the steam-cylinder of an engine, placed between the cylinder and the air-pump, and operated by the tappet-motion, so as to open shortly after the equilibrium-valve, and admit the steam to the condenser.
