I do understand that other types of words might need clarification, but most good dictionaries (mine is Larousse Gran Diccionario Inglés y Español with over 260,000 words) will use words in example sentences thus demonstrating the different contexts and meanings of more complex words such as tener, alcanzar, hacer etc ...
