fbharjo commented on the word inscrutability of fbharjo
Winston Churchill once defined Russia as 'a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.' (A classmate in college once told me he thought of me that way!) Is this a good definition of inscrutable? The irony of this is that my maternal grandfather was a - somewhat distant (read mysterious)- cousin of Jenny Jerome, Winston's American mother. Gophigure! I remember visiting Blenheim and the room where Winston was born, during a party, of course! Winston had a bent on being where the action is. He only suffered during dull times. Hence bricklaying was his hobby? Gophigure!

Scrut is a marvelous English root, I root for! Remember it is a verb, not a noun! Invest in that?

I know it’s uncouth to quote The Simpsons; I nonetheless can’t resist citing Lisa’s description of Nelson Muntz as “like a riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a vest”.

Touche! (that's the key ) in a vest pocket - not! "only if water balloons are invested?" as Nelson would say rescrutfully.

Trying to scrut fbharjo is one of the ongoing pleasures of Wordie/Wordnik. Not that I ever have much success. Tant pis pour moi.
