- noun The development, partial or perfect, of an organism from part of an egg or part of an embryo. If the two blastomeres of the two-celled stage of the segmenting egg of a ctenophore are isolated, each forms a half-embryo. In Amphioxus each forms a perfect embryo of half the normal size.
