• noun A gummy substance, C₆H₁₀O₅, found in the cell-membranes of the seeds of lupines: insoluble in water, but soluble in a hot solution of potassium hydroxid. It is hydrolyzed by dilute sulphuric acid, giving galactose and furfural.
