- noun An Australian bird of the genus Sericulus, S. chrysocephalus or melinus, the plumage of which is velvety-black and golden-yellow in the male: so called during the regency of the Prince of Wales, afterward George IV., in compliment to him. It is related to the bower-birds, but has been variously classified. See
