• noun In marble-working, a bench with a stone or marble surface, on which a slab of marble is placed to be subdivided by a grub-saw.
• noun A circular revolving table on which slabs, tiles, etc., of marble are placed, to be rubbed down, with sand and water, to a true surface or brought to a square or beveled edge. Such tables are supported on a pivot resting on a steel step and turned by gearing (either below the table or by a central shaft above the table), and are fitted with various appliances for holding the slabs, tiles, etc., in position on the table. Such revolving beds are from four to fourteen feet in diameter.
