(n.): A form of 5-act tragedy developed by Lucius Annaeus Seneca in his nine plays based on Greek drama. It is widely believed that these plays, including Euripides, were closet dramas meant for private recitation rather than performance on stage. The long rhetorical speeches are passages in these works that lend themselves recitation.
