- noun A grass-like fiber-plant, Gymnostachys anceps, belonging to the arum family, used in New South Wales and Queensland as twine. When used for any purpose where particular strength is required, the leaves are prepared by singeing them in fire or hot ashes. Also called
traveler's-grass .
