- noun A form of bearing in which a hollow cylinder or quill fits the shaft-journal on its inside and the box or bearing proper on its outside surface. The sleeve may turn in the box or the shaft turn in the sleeve.
- noun A form of long bearing for a shaft to be inserted in a wall and permit the revolving shaft to pass through it to the other side.
