• noun A handsome but ill-smelling and nearly worthless grass, Eragrostis major, native in Europe and Asia and widely introduced in waste and cultivated, chiefly sandy, lands in the United States. Also called candy-grass, skunk-grass, and pungent meadow-grass. This name is also given to the similar but smaller species E. Eragrostis.
