The Golden Age

Recently a friend dragged me to see Woody Allen's movie "Midnight in Paris." I hadn't wanted to go--my time was precious because I needed to get ready for a couple of trips and, quite frankly, I had some residual qualms about seeing something by Woody Allen--but my friend insisted, and I'm glad. I won't give away too much if you haven't seen it, but one of the main ideas is that we never assume we're living in a golden age; perhaps we look to the past and wish we could be in Paris in the 1920's--but if we could visit, we'd find that the people there felt bored or yearned for an even earlier time. Which era do you think was the golden age?
