Appleseed

Appleseed is another movie with meaningless plot (compared to other anime plots) but heavy on action, and it got amazing direction from Shinji Aramaki.

This sequel to Appleseed is directed by Ghost in the Shell director Shinji Aramaki and produced by John Woo, and you can certainly see Woo's influence, especially the shot where all the spent ammo casings are falling on the floor.

The others are a mixed bag for me: Appleseed is a definite along with The Brothers Grimm, Hitchiker's Guide and Revenge of the Sith (wookie armies - thats all it needs to be baby).

I don't know how many of you read the utterly superb graphic novel, or saw the groundbreaking CG/anime hybrid movie, but take it from a long time fan, Appleseed is no joke. well, except the first anime attempt they made from the graphic novels, which was the visual equivalent of ipecac. that said, the movie captures much of the original plot line, is a goddamn visual feast, and oh yeah, it has a soundtrack too:
