This mountain has four species of birds strictly confined to it, including the critically endangered Karthala scops owl (Otus pauliani), Grand Comoro flycatcher (Humblotia flavirostris, EN), and the Grand Comoro drongo (Dicrurus fuscipennis, EN), so all these species are extremely vulnerable to habitat loss.
