Other species of special concern in the Southern African context are the African wild cat, honey badger (Mellivora capensis), pangolin (Manis temminckii), aardvark (Orycteropus afer), kori bustard (Ardeotis kori), bateleur (Terathopius ecaudatus), martial eagle, whiteheaded (Trigonoceps occipitalis), lappetfaced (Torgos tracheliotus), and Cape (Gyps coprotheres) vultures.

Other mammals of interest are elephant (Loxodonta africana), black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis), white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) (both now rare in the ecoregion), hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius), and honey badger (Mellivora capensis).
