I forgot to mention that, if you drive from Comitan to Palenque over the route through Benermerito de Las Americas along the Guatemala border, the perfect place to spend the night is the Las Guacamayas Ecolodge about half way through your journey and staying there gives you time to head for Yaxchilan the next day and, perhaps Bonampac if you time your journey well.

As the launch from Yaxchilan to Frontera Corozal ploughed the Usumacinta the crocodile was in the shallows mouth agape yet no electrical wire extended from the beast to the impenetrable jungle but it seemed strange that that croc was always there opening his jaws as this launch passed.

I don´t recall if the other nearby Maya ruins we have visited in Chiapas; Bonampak, Yaxchilan, Toniná and Chinkultic or the national park at Lagos de Montebello offer that service but if you are making the Maya circuit in Chiapas and coming from afar, you can save a ton of money especially if you take a luxury bus down there as well.
