After I searched in our forum and googled I tried to stop artsd daemon / using some other user graphical interface (XFCE and Fluxbox) but every where I'm seeing It's playing music / video with no sound in the speakers.

Could someone explain or point me to a document describing how the pulse daemon / artsd are being automatically started?

But the sound is still 'way too low, though - alsaconf didn't seem to fix that at all, and it also complained about being unable to store the mixer settings because the mixer was "in use" (by both kmix and artsd, I found).

It comes to my attention every so often when some audio, cd related app refuses to work because artsd hogs the audio device or the cd device.
