• noun A peculiar genus of mainly epiphytic polypodiaceous ferns mostly with fronds of two sorts, the sterile ones sessile, concave, cordate-oblong and sinuate or laciniate, having little chlorophyl and conspicuous, raised venation; the fertile ones larger, pinnatifid or pinnate, the sori roundish, naked, sometimes confluent, borne at the junction of the compoundly anastomosing veinlets. There are about a dozen species, widely distributed in the eastern hemisphere, of which D. quercifolia is the best known.
