  • In horticulture, noting an intermediate grade between tender and hardy: said of plants which withstand a little frost, but not ahard one, and are sown or planted out after frosty weather is past and before the weather becomes thoroughly settled. Sometimes used also for plants which will live out of doors throughout the year if given shelter or protection.
