  • noun A hydrolytic decomposition-product of albuminous origin which contains one or more amino acids in combination (as dipeptids, tripeptids, tetrapeptids, polypeptids, etc.). The peptids stand on a lower scale of complexity of composition than the albumoses. See also tryptic digestion.
