pilus . - noun In the Hawaiian Islands, a long coarse grass, Andropogon contortus, used for thatching houses, but very troublesome to sheep on account of its twisted awns which become entangled in their wool.
- noun A Philippine name of the nuts of the pilaui-tree, Canarium Luzonicum. They are nearly triangular in cross-section and are pointed at each end. The oily kernel has an almond-like flavor and is eaten by the natives. See
