In advance a strange but always improbable scenario had emerged whereby the bloke dropping the winning catch (always a skyer obscured by the lights or a passing jumbo jet) would feel the need to dig a deep hole, crawl into it and not come out until Pizza / Pasta Hut paid him enough to do a hilariously self-deprecating advert.
