A good disaster movie will include either Paris or Rome in addition to London as representatives of old-world culture. I've also seen Sydney demolished more than once, always assuming that the disaster wasn't confined to the Opera House.

I am really intrigued by the near-simultaneous creation of this list, and frogapplause's Towns with Sizeable Albino Squirrel Populations. Do you think there's any correlation?

What I want to know is: Do they have a special budget over at the Discovery Channel and the Hitlery Channel for simulations of the end of the world which involve destruction of the Golden Gate Bridge? Why does the meteorite always land in the Pacific? Somebody working at these channels really has it in for those of us living in San Francisco. I must have seen at least three or four different simulations in the past six-months, each complete with eye-popping computer graphics and that smug voiceover, where the narrator can barely contain his glee at those damned liberal, lefty sodomites getting their long-overdue comeuppance. Note my avoidance of the S-word to describe the phenomenon. Epicaricacy, pure and simple, that's what it is!

The question is, with the expanding economies in the East, will we now start to see movies where the destroyed cities include Mumbai, Shanghai, and Moscow?

Warren Ellis is planning to destroy Moscow in the new G.I. Joe series he's working on. Mostly because they wouldn't let him destroy Beijing.
