    The pugilist paused in the middle of his book of historical fiction because he felt a numbing sensation in his arm, perhaps a lingering effect of the boxing ring. He decided to climb down from the couch and play some double solitare with his manager while they discussed his next press release. It was a safe bet that his opponent, the living fossil, would accidentally on purpose stir up some trouble before the next match. "That guy is pure evil," said the aging yuppie manager, "I wouldn't be suprised if he is found missing some day."

    Thanks, azzurre, but I'm trying to stick to the ones that aren't meant to be jokes--just the ones people say in everyday speech without necessarily realizing it. :-)

    It's true. I laughed aloud at the coikydink of finding a new user with that name on a day like today. So, in which language do we pronounce your name? :-)

    And reesetee: I would expect that only us "regulars" are in the habit of following the Recent Comments list. It's a good habit to be in. But I'd think it takes most newbies a while to pick it up. It did for me, anyway, way back when.

    I love this list--I linger and chuckle here. How about more unique? (One of my mother's major rubbies.) You already have greater half, but how about the child's version--"I want the big half?

    When my brother and I were very young, we would look out the window at night and scare ourselves by saying to each other black headlights!. I dimly remember an adult talking about someone sitting in his car at night, "with the headlights blacked out," and up to no good. Evidently it was quite evocative for George and I! The thought of black headlights gives me a little chill even now. So I offer you this idiosyncratic tidbit.
