What's horse-related about shield and halberd?

Palfrey and helm are gorgeous words though.

Knights rode horses, and carried shields--which by the transitive property means that horses also carried shields.

If knights were dismounted or lost their horses--and even if they didn't--they faced men carrying halberds and pikes. War horses were brought down by these weapons, so if we're talking medieval mounted shock combat, I figured they deserved to be included.

p.s. thanks for reminding me to include mounted shock combat, a great phrase!

Ah, right. And when war-horses were brought down by halberds, they fell on the ground. So you should probably include that too, no?

Well, halberd and shield are words related to medieval combat. I'd add ground if it were clearly related to medieval combat and not a hundred other things. If they bug you that much, don't read them. :) Fair warning--here are some other words that might bug you on this list: helm, archer, articulated, mace, and sword. Just a word of caution!

I love mounted shock combat! (the phrase, rather than the activity). if this were my list, I'd add the term trusty steed, though I suspect it doesn't entirely fit the medieval context.

Thanks, sionnach. I like trusty steed a lot even though it sounds more like Lone Ranger-era.

I think noble steed sounds more medieval... which is probably why Shrek co-opted it...

I arrived here because I was looking for words to... borrow... for my Farriery list. Then I got distracted by feague.

Um, anyway, could you tell me any more about what a cuirboille is? I don't suppose it's something a farrier would use to cure boils. (I mean, it couldn't be that easy, right?)
