    Palooka, you pinched the polka from me (so to speak). :-) Love the list idea, sionnach. How about Alabama Slammer (a drink), Vermont/Wisconsin cheddar, Minnesota Fats, Carolina Moon (an old song)? Then there's New York minute, but that's a reference to the city, not the state--does it count?

    Thanks, c_b! I will include it, but you should go ahead and list it first, as I had never heard of it until now (coverage of pre-civil war American history in Irish high schools is, how shall I put it? - nonexistent).
