Fun list - trompe l'oeil!
What about the family height chart? That whole bit with the ruler and the pencil on your birthday and/or whenever you could convince your mom that you got a little taller - is there a more succinct word for it?

When I was a kid my family made tons of those. Problem is, we'd always forget where they were and start over in a new location. By the time we moved out of a house (fairly frequent in my family) we'd have three or four charts in various rooms. Needless to say, it wasn't a very good way to keep track of our growth. ;-)

Good one, trivet--thanks!
Oh yes, we had a family height chart too--still do. Unlike the roving uselessness clan, we stayed put, so it's faded, but present, in my parents' kitchen doorway. Dad even avoided repainting that area over the years. :-)
