Chime in! I'm sure I've missed many. :-)

Epithalamist - a writer of epithalamia (wedding odes).
Palinodist - a writer of palinodes (recantatory verses).
Parodist and satirist - writers of parodies and satires respecitvely.
Psalmist. Songsmith, tunesmith.

yarb commented on the list writer-writer
Oh, and makar, an old Scots term for a bard.

reesetee commented on the list writer-writer
Good grief, yarb--you're doing all the work for me! Thanks for all the great suggestions! Reporter is already on the list, but all the rest are added. :-)

uselessness commented on the list writer-writer
Hmm, how about secretary, copywriter, spin doctor, transcriptionist, letterer, muse? Not sure if any of those are general enough for you, but take your pick. :-)

chained_bear commented on the list writer-writer
You have scribe, but you don't have scriobhfadh, which (I hope to God I spelled it correctly) is my favorite Gaelic word.

reesetee commented on the list writer-writer
Thanks, guys! Great words! Uselessness, I'm aiming for words that describe people who actually create the work rather than just copy, so maybe not transcriptionist. Secretary works, if you're not thinking of what's now called an administrative assistant, I guess. :-)
C_b, I think scriobhfadh is the correct spelling. (I checked it out.)

Good one! Thanks, tag.

reesetee commented on the list writer-writer
Gee, nice to know it's addictive. ;-)
Thanks, tag. I'm going to skip "poetess" because I already have "poet" (and it's...oh, I hate this phrase...gender neutral). But I'll take proser. I don't think I even knew it was a word until now!

reesetee commented on the list writer-writer
Yes, but I'm enjoying your addiction ever so much. I keep meaning to get back to this list myself to come up with more entries, but you're doing the work for me!

I have more...
fantasist, drafter, stenographer(?), penman, scribbler, scrawler, graffitist(?), cub, scrivener...

You too, U? :-) Great ones--thanks!

obituary writer? I guess eulogies are always spoken, so eulogist probably doesn't fit. I think necrologist is the corresponding word for written materials.

sionnach commented on the list writer-writer
belletrist?

mollusque commented on the list writer-writer
How about monographer?

palooka commented on the list writer-writer
Wonderful list! I've always wanted to be a pulp fiction writer. It would be cool to be able to write an entire 300 page novel during one afternoon.
"It was a dark & stormy night in Wordieland & John was intent on finishing an entire bottle of Jack Daniels..."

Doodler?
November 3, 2007
reesetee commented on the list writer-writer
Hey, thanks all! I never realized how long this list could get! I intended this to be a list of writers who actually create what they're writing (as opposed to, say, a transcriptionist), so most of these fit. Guess I'll have to leave doodler out, though, oroboros, even though I like it. Not that I don't have a zillion other lists it can go on. ;-)

People tend to have lots of words for their group, writers just happen to write them all down.

An obituary writer is an obituarist.
How about jotter?

Excellent list!

reesetee commented on the list writer-writer
Thanks, SoG! Mollusque, thanks for obituarist--had meant to add it and forgot. Don't know about jotter, though, since the definitions I've seen don't describe anything but note-taking. :-)
November 5, 2007
mollusque commented on the list writer-writer
How about amorist and epigrammatist? There's also commentator in its former sense, now weakened by talking heads.
November 7, 2007
reesetee commented on the list writer-writer
Thanks, mollusque--all good suggestions, though I agree that commentator unfortunately has taken on a far different connotation than it once had.

rolig commented on the list writer-writer
A couple more poets: elegist, idyllist, and the less-talented epigone; from the religious side of things: hymnographer, hagiographer; and from journalism: editorialist. Plus, you left out my profession: translator. Also close to all Wordies' hearts are lexicographers and etymologists.

reesetee commented on the list writer-writer
Thanks for the suggestions, bilby and rolig! Rolig, I don't think I knew you're a translator--but why am I not surprised? :-)

I got 'Words cannot contain the characters '?', '/', or '#'. Please try again.' at the top of the page when I arrived here. Odd.

At your service.
Another favorite sort of writer, one librarians should be very familiar with: bibliographer.

reesetee commented on the list writer-writer
Bilby, did you break my page?
Thanks, rolig--I was sure that was already listed. *head scratch*

rolig commented on the list writer-writer
It's easy to miss the common ones. Here's another I don't see on the list: autobiographer. I recently made a list of -id words, and it was a while for I remembered that such everyday words as liquid and stupid also belonged.

Ah, you didn't bork it, bilby. I'll bet it had to do with that two-minute blackout we just had....

May I suggest the ooey gooey French écrivain (masc form), which essentially means writer but gives just the right bloviating sophistication to that certain scribbler.
If you can read French, read this wikipedia.fr article about it.

reesetee commented on the list writer-writer
Thanks, adoarns! Sounds like a gooey bloviating French dessert. ;-) Unfortunately, I can't read French (well, I can read it, but I can't understand it), but thanks for the article too. :-)
