  • "Discography" was a created word, first appearing in the mid-1930's. It comes from "graph(y)," meaning "writing"...and "disc" meaning a phonorecord (most usually of the 78rpm variety).

Originally, the term referred to published compiled works listing all the phonorecords recorded (1) by a given artist or group thereof, or (2) containing music of a stated sort...by certain artists (see #1) or limited by some other stated fact or group thereof.

Currently, the term generally refers to a list of ALL phonorecords recorded and issued by a given artist/band or a specific group thereof!

In the latter sense, "discographies" are often appended to magazine (usw.) articles about one specific artist or group.

Note that the term also defines a specific activity carried on by phonorecord collectors! In THIS sense,

"discography" defines a science consisting of trying to accumulate and, if possible, "publish" (in printed

and/or digital/Internet form...!) all, or as much as

possible, of the data concerning a specifically-defined group of phonorecords...!

  • "SFA" is am "anglocism"...?! It is the initials of the rather socially-unacceptable term, "Sweet Fuck

All" (note that "fuck all" means "zero" or "nothing" in this expression!).

Thus, one can say "X knows SFA about this" and mean that X is (1) hopelessly ignorant about the entity,

and thus (2) his/her/its comments should NOT be given

    any credence!

  • This is a Black (ebonics?!) term; it refers to people who, because of poverty, ignorance, usw. are clearly NOT on the same functioning social level as those with some claim to status...!

Thus, a "raggedy-ass blues player" is NOT dressed in rags...he/she/it simply displays a degree of incompetence when offered the opportunity to sit in with a blues band...!
