Well, Grant Barrett's The Official Dictionary of Unofficial English has the tree and tomato sense, but restricting it to "catface napkin" doesn't find any relevant hits except this Morrison line. Aha! Too narrow! "catface cloth" finds a couple of US dialect dictionaries with the required sense "wrinkle in ironed cloth".

Pines in the southern US and elsewhere were/are scored repeatedly to collect pitch in tin or ceramic cups or pans, for processing into turpentine and/or other naval stores formerly used to caulk wooden ships to make them seaworthy. The seriate old wounds "heal" over and produce what are locally called catfaces. I first witnessed this process in Michoacan, Mexico in 1978 on a walking journey to the volcano Paricutin, and later in Florida in the form of scarred old pine trees, remains of fallen pine trunks lying in the forest, and ceramic and tin remnants of the containers once used to collect the pitch. Old driftwood-like remains of longleaf pines bearing catfaces and shattered bits of ceramic Hurdy cups the pitch was collected in are not uncommon in Florida woods.
