I found this definition in a dictionary of British slang. I don't know if it predates dingleberries or not, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Actually, what attracted me to it was a meaning of "fundament" of which I was not aware, but which makes total sense.

In Australia they call these dags, which, interestingly, is also the name for someone who's kind of a class clown or a card. "Oh Nigel always makes me laugh, he's such a dag!"
