Ajax on May 16, 2008 brad pitt does have the star power to maybe pull it off. and seeing his name on the credits might interest people. but there are others who might fit the part as well: karl urban? he played eomer in lord of the rings, he also did a good job in pathfinder. triple h has the look but i don't think he's much of an actor (didn't like him much in blade trinity). kris on May 20, 2008

My 17,000th word. And oddly, I actually know someone who named their son this. :)

Several people said that already, but it's a fine Anglo-Saxon name. I don't think the worst thing that can happen to a kid is to have an unusual name.

I like it as a name, per se, but so many people are going to hear it and think instantly of a horse-lord with flowing locks.

I don't know, having a dodgy name can be pretty bad. Trust me, I know from experience. Not the worst thing, maybe, but certainly not fun.
I hear Eomer and all I can think is how in the movie he looked like an aardvark.

I had a pretty exotic name that I didn't notice was exotic for many years. By then I had already decided if anyone thought my name was odd, they could shove it.
Then, too, I didn't look like an aardvark. (I don't think Karl Urban did either, but that seems beside the point.)

I don't argue with the idea that having an unusual name can be good. (I've had to spell my name my whole life, since it's often mistaken for a similar and more common one.) I'm just feeling sorry for the child because of its current connection with LOTR. Seems to make the name sound trendy instead of like the classic name that it is. :-)

Eowyn is a very nice name too.
I can see your point about the trendiness factor, but have you seen some of the more recent names to have come out of the depths of our fellow countrymen's and -women's brain cells? I would much prefer something allegedly trendy from a great work of literature (and great movies) than something fake trendy like Destiny or (the lamentably unisex) Dakota or one of your more madeupical names.
After all, don't we all love Hawkeye on M*A*S*H? Though I guess you could argue that Cooper wasn't as trendy in the 1920s or whenever Hawkeye was supposed to have been born, as Tolkien is/was in the early 2000s. Also, Hawkeye wasn't real.
But still! I don't think the connection's a bad thing.
I guess we'll find out someday how little Eomer feels about it. I mean, his last name sucks, so he might like his first name better, for all we know.
