A large spherical colony of a green alga. The plant was named "marimo" by a Japanese botanist. 'Mari' is the name for a child's toy ball. 'Mo' is a generic term for plants that grow in water." Also known as "moss balls", "Japanese moss ball", or "Cladophora ball".
