Most days, I give in and have a "medialuna", which is essentially a croissant, but a little sweeter, sometimes with a bit of a glaze on top.
sionnach commented on the word medialuna
A crescent-shaped croissant, slightly smaller than a factura, and presumably lower in calories. This might seem like a healthier alternative, except that standard procedure is to serve them in batches of 3. For instance, a café con leche with three medialunas costs 6 pesos (= 2 US dollars) in the little coffeeshop across from school.
Medialunas come in two types - "dulce" or "salada". Though I always think "salada" means "dirty" (is this a French association?), of course it just means "salted".
And, of course, the term medialuna is somewhat misleading, as the pastries in question are definitely in the shape of a crescent moon, not a half-moon.
