Cricket jargon - an invalid ball, from which a batsman may not be out other than run out. There are various ways in which a no-ball may occur. The most common is when the bowler's front foot lands over the popping crease in his delivery stride. A no-ball incurs a penalty of one run against the bowling team and the ball must be bowled again.
