  • Our father invented orbisculate in college to describe when a citrus fruit squirts in your eye, then proceeded to use it so often when we were growing up that we were shocked to discover it wasn’t in the dictionary (also, kind of annoyed, since we found out when we lost a $5 bet to one of our friends).

  • Although orbisculate is a neologism with an active campaign for adoption, I think it stands out as a rare word that both fills a real gap in the language and suits its purpose well. As a term meaning "to squirt juice from a citrus fruit into one's eye, as with a spoon thrust into a halved grapefruit," orbisculate has found frequent use in our household.
