(n.) The ancient Norwegian calendar stick. Known as a clog almanac to English speakers. These were devised to keep track of days of the week, and the seasons - when to plant, when to harvest, etc. With the coming of Christianity, when to celebrate this or that holiday, or saint, or anniversary. All carved symbolically into a staff, or stave, stick or staub - call it what you will.
