  • I want to check the OED on this one, but, obs. term for some kind of female "sharper" or con artist?

  • There's Spanish preñado - pregnant. I can imagine some tawdry street-bint shoplifting by stuffing booty under a baby bump.

  • the "some kind of female sharper" is word for word what the Oxford said. And, bilby, it mentions preñado as well, as a possible (though dubious) etymology...uncanny.

  • That's so weird. I've only ever heard embarazada for pregnant (it's a famous false friend: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Embarazada&oldid=485397986). Nice find, you two.
