Do you prefer "most winning"? The baseball pitcher with the most wins is not necessarily the best, so that doesn't really work.

You've got me stumped, seanahan. I suppose that the "most winning" pitcher might be charming but unable to pitch, so that will not do.
Perhaps Wordie court should allow "winningest" if it remains in its sports context. ;-)

It is difficult to come up with a better term in sports context. I don't really like "most victorious", and I agree that "most winning" sounds like a statement about charm. What do you all propose to use to describe the person who wins the most games?
There should be a Wordie rule that if don't like a usage, you have to propose an alternate.

It may be an 'Americanism' because it's used in the States, but that's not the origin.
When you dig through google books, what some people can an 'Americanism' is really just a word or phrase the UK wish that they could forget.
