A list of 1218 words by Khvalovsky.

About

I've organized the words in the list according to the order of Russian letters located in our ABC one after another and added a digit to each English sound which makes analogy to the similar Russian sound and the letter representing it in our written and oral practice of communication.

Russian vowels are divided into 2 groups:

1 - 2

а - я

о - ё

у - ю

ы - и

э - е

Vowels of the first group have been never changing their pronunciation in the both cases: when they are representing a word of one single letter or when a word is begun with any one of the first group vowels as well as when they follow some consonant.

The vowels of the second group give slightly different sounds after consonants as well as after the soft and hard signs. They are double sounded and in this case miss their "й" sound which appears when the vowel is used in a word starting with the second group vowel or when it follows soft or hard sound letters (ь,ъ).

For example: копьё - Кёльн; адьютант - Нью-Йорк Н(йу=ю)-Йорк - бюст, Мюнхен; я, яблоко, обязан - объявление - об(йа=я)вление; воробьи, ульи - ...б/л(йи) - Билли; еда, платье - театр.

    Each sound has a number representing it so that strings of numbers can represent the sounds of words. I agree, though - tags would be much more manageable. You can't possibly list every word.

    Also, I see a technical difficulty: is it really possible to represent every sound with a two digit number?

    At first the sound is remembered - like in our childhood as babies can't read earlier than they start talking. Digital transcription is my key to correct reading and remembering the new words. I agree that there are differences in British and American variants of pronunciation and spelling a word with the same meaning. I catch the words which are remembered by me with "digital butterfly-net" as if they had been insects for an ornithologist's collection. I'd like to find them in my memory and write down in chosen order of their following one another. Thank you for the word "though" - I think it's been missed by me. Smile! I try to learn Spanish, Italian and Polish as well and am going to fill my memory with new contents. I'm grateful for any help. My best regards from Russian province!
